Thanks ubuntu-geek for this very neat new feature!
When starting a thread, there is now this new dialog:
Clicking in the text box to write the message will have the system look for similar threads and link them on screen:
Cool! This will help users find answers before posting and hopefully reduce duplicate threads.

If so, the gnome-power-manager programming team and jasonspiro need your feedback:
Do you ever carry your laptop around with the lid open?:

A “don’t suspend laptop for. X min on close” option. Good idea? Bad?:

I think it is an extremely interesting and unusual request from a dev, please contribute. The very large ubuntuforums community should consider this […]

Following up on a previous article.
On certain keyboards, there is no right Windows key to set up a “compose” key.
In /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/xorg.lst, you can find the default keys that can be defined as “compose”:
Compose key Compose key position
compose:ralt […]

This is very impressive:
http://ubuntustats.com/.
You can follow in real time a representative chunk of the Ubuntu community activity, all in one web page. You can personalize the way data is shown.
Congratulations to Martin Albisetti and Felipe Lerena :)

I’m used to aptitude. On a daily basis.
I use it to udate/upgrade my system, and to look for infos on packages, mainly to help out people on ubuntuforums.
Searching the web for something else, I’ve found apt-cache madison. Woaw! One more tool I’m going to be using a lot…
From man apt-cache:
madison /[ pkg(s) ]
apt-cache’s madison command […]

We have a new sub-forum on UF: the Dev Link Forum within the current Development (Gutsy Gibbon) forum.
The rationale is to allow developers to request feedback from the forum userbase without all the noise (Thanks Pricey, just pasted your announcement ;)).
Developers can start threads, and regular members are welcome to comment and give feed-back.
Please see […]

Please check the instructions on their howto page or on the wiki page.

In a previous post, I raised some concerns regarding a Dell page on ubuntu.com. I was not the only one to raise the issue. Vorian and ubuntu-demon blogged about it, and they have exposure on PUC.
Many thanks to whoever changed the link to ubuntuforums on that page. Yeah \o/

It’s a little disturbing the way Canonical advertised the community support related to Dell computers:
http://www.ubuntu.com/dell
Support Offerings
A variety of on-line and professional support offerings are available for Ubuntu 7.04, from community forums through to professional support support services provided by Canonical.
No link to any community forum, regardless of language. Don’t we have an _official_ forum?
On-line […]

ubuntuforums is extremely successful and contribute to the overall success of Ubuntu. Basic users, who have adopted and made Ubuntu so popular, do not come to IRC or do not use mailing lists as much as they use forums. To be helped on a forum, you basically need a web browser. No special application to […]

I blogged yesterday about a questionable women representation that got into Planet Ubuntu-fr.
I did not feed it into Planet Ubuntu-Women, or in Planet Ubuntu-Users. I also closed the comments, I already got into this kind of discussion (this fun, this is art, this is a (copyrighted) drawing, you have no humor, watch TV…) and heard […]

The compose key is very useful to type special letters that are not on keyboard (letters with accents for ex.):
compose+,+c = ç
There is no menu entry in the keyboard layout for the compose key in XFCE. You have to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and add it in the “InputDevice” section:
Section “InputDevice”
Identifier “Generic Keyboard”
Driver […]

Beware, this is about Ubuntu, this is serious, but here, English speakers might miss the whole meaning. I’ll try to explain.
It all started in the small ubuntu@chat.jabberfr.org room, when xbright showed us a thread on ubuntu-fr forum. The question was completely unreadable, non-understandable, and xbright answered with “Tagada tsoin tsoin” which does not mean anything, […]
