This question comes back very very often on unbuntuforums: how to update/upgrade/install packages when connected to the Internet via a proxy. Actually, all the front-ends to APT (Advance Packaging Tool), namely apt-get, aptitude, synaptic and adept, can get the proxy settings from the /etc/apt/apt.conf file and do not read the global proxy settings.

A new version of Rhythmbox, the music management and playback software for GNOME, has been released. Rhythmbox is my favorite music player, I like the tight GNOME integration, and the light GUI. Current edgy release is 0.9.6. Among the new features:

Before a package can enter the -update repositories (dapper and edgy), it will be tested by users using the -proposed repositories. So do not use these repos if you do not want to deal with a breakage ;)

New stable Epiphany 2.16.3 has been released. Among several bug fixes, Epiphany Adblock has a User Interface, can’t wait to test that :)
